Launch of new Ilfracombe Through Time book.

ILFRACOMBE Through Time is the title of a new book comparing photographs showing how the town has changed during the past century.

It is part of the popular ‘Through Time’ series produced by Amberley Publishing and is the second to be put together by North Devon authors Peter Christie and photographer Graham Hobbs.

The book depicts countless views of the town, with old photographs dating back 100 years alongside an image of the area in the present day.

It features major landmarks of past and present, such as the old Victoria Pavilion, which was built in 1888 and demolished in 1992.

“When you see the pictures like that you realise the changes that have actually occurred and it really gives you a sense that this is a living community,” said Peter.

Graham added: “We have thoroughly enjoyed this project and would like to thank all the people who have helped us by posing in photographs.”

Ilfracombe Through Time is available at various outlets including Ilfracombe Bookshop, Waterstones, WH Smith and Walter Henry’s Bookshop in Bideford.

The authors will be at a book signing in Ilfracombe Bookshop on Saturday, December 1 from 11am.
