Music-lovers in Axminster will be keen to hear that Iain McDonald will be visiting The Minster on Saturday, May 19, with his friends Janet Macdonald (soprano), Philip Bonser (clarinet) and Margaret Honeybourne Chave (piano).
Many people will remember Iain’s masterminding of the Thursday lunchtime concerts in the Minster for some years and his much-loved singing, and the Minster welcomes his return visit with his friends for what purports to be a wonderful afternoon of music.
Of Schubert’s 600 and more songs, only one or two have instrumental accompaniments other than the piano, and organisers are delighted that a rare performance of the lovely song The Shepherd on the Rock, with clarinet obbligato will be heard.
The audience will come home from Schubert’s Vienna via France, with Gabriel Fauré’s lyricism, to the essential Englishness of the music of Gerald Finzi, introduced by Peter Macdonald.
The music starts at 3pm, and there will be an interval for some homemade refreshments.
Tickets, £5, are available from Archway Bookshop, Church Street, Axminster or at the door and the proceeds are for the Minster upkeep. The price is good, and the fare is good!
