THE prolific work of a Langtree photographer is being brought together in an archive depicting the life of North Devon farming folk over three decades.

Now a local group is appealing for help identifying some of the people and places in the many pictures taken by Keith Duncan, a farmer turned photographer.

In a similar vein to well-known photographer James Ravillious, Keith recorded countless facets of local life from 1980-2006, covering themes such as cider-making, craftsmen, travellers, portraiture and street life in general, with the local music scene a particular passion.

He set up the Summer Daze music festival on his farm at Langtree, an event which included many well-known bands including Hawkwind in 1996.

He died in 2006 and the family have given the photographs to the Women’s Rural Workshop in order for a book to be put together.

The archive is stored in the Faux Arts premises at Taddiport, Torrington and co-ordinator Shan Miller is keen to hear from anyone who recognises any of the faces, places and occasions in the photographs.

A special Facebook page has been created called Faux Arts at The Loft, where viewers are invited to comment and suggest names of those in the photographs.

“No one seems to know much about Keith’s work, but he was very prolific and we want to do something with this archive before he gets forgotten,” said Shan.

“We just feel his work is so significant to local history, as so many things have changed in the last 30-odd years. Maybe we can produce a digital archive similar to James Ravillious.”

Many of Keith’s the pictures can be viewed on the Faux Arts at the Loft Facebook page.
