Staff members at Sainsbury’s in South Molton are pitting their skills at volleyball against England Paralympians

Paralympics sponsors Sainsbury’s organised a regional sitting volleyball competition among its stores.

South Molton store colleagues Mat Jackson (captain), Danny Hall, Joey Kennedy-Brown, Jack Kennedy-Brown, Will Lewin and Mitchell Box-Spain former their own team The Sainsbury’s Stallions and entered their local competition for 20 stores across Devon and Cornwall.

They won the regional competition unbeaten and progressed to a zonal competition comprising 200 stores ranging as far as Birmingham. They won that, too, again without losing a match.

Ambitious team captain Mat Jackson had the idea of contacting Volleyball England to see if they could compete against the England team.

The result has been a series of competitions against teams from across the country which include Paralympians among their players.

An initial competition at the home of volleyball in Kettering saw the Stallions win one of their four matches and a second outing to Surrey brought them two wins and two defeats.

They have further competitions still to play in January and February, both at Kettering.
