Archant

Following a month of inactivity, the Terror Pins were back in action contesting league match number ten to complete the first half of the season.

This fixture took them to the Aylesbeare Inn, the home of opponents Aylesbeare Eagles.

The hosts lost the toss and were invited to throw first and scored 55. For the seventh time the Terror Pins won leg one, this time scoring 64, helped by a spare from Conrad (Tom) Thomas, aka Mr T. They also captured the second and third legs for a l5-pin advantage.

As has happened in the past the opposition came back strongly. The Eagles took the next four legs with differences of 16, four, 18 and five knockdowns to establish a 28-pin gap going into the final leg. For the Terror Pins Mervyn Handford was playing steadily, leading the race to be his team’s Player of the Match.

As with the first leg the hosts finished with a 55, which left the visitors needing to get 84 for victory, alas though they obtained their highest score of the night, one of 66, it was not enough to prevent defeat by l7 pins (471 to 454).

In that final leg Mr T gained another spare, helping him to produce a total of 68, his highest aggregate score in a match. It also enabled him to overhaul Mervyn and attained his first Player of the Match for the Terror Pins, thus ending an evening of mixed emotions.
