Somerset may well be able to field both Alviro Petersen and Abdur Rehman in the Friends Life t20 this year, after confirming the South African batsman would be available for the competition.

Petersen had initially signed to play for the Cidermen for the opening half of the LV= County Championship season – but he has now extended his stay in Taunton until the end of July.

That will allow him to compete for Somerset in the FLt20, while the county also hope the international calendar allows them to field Pakistan spinner Rehman in the same competition.

He recently signed for the second half of the season.

Somerset coach Andy Hurry said: “Alviro will be available for the whole of the Twenty20, which is great news, but the situation with Rehman is dependent on confirmation of Pakistan’s Test series against West Indies. There is hope that the dates will overlap, so we can play both Alviro and Manny in the Twenty20.”
