Exmouth Amateur Ladies 1, Heavitree Social Ladies 3
After three successive meetings with top side Alphington it got no easier for Ammies as they entertained a strong Heavitree Social side.
At full time Ammies were clearly disappointed not to have taken something fro the game, one that was a scrappy affair with both defences dominant throughout.
The opening exchanges were hard fought, but with little quality as both sides struggled to get any meaningful possession.
Ammies finally put a piece of quality football together with Hawkins, Sharpe and Rawlings combining to send Wills away down the left. Her pace took her into the box and it needed a fine tackle to force a corner.
Worsley swung over a great set-piece and Rawlings rose to head home. With both defences comfortably on top both keepers had very little to do so the quality of the Heavitree equaliser took everyone by surprise!
Heavitree’s best player, who Ammies had managed to keep quiet for 40 minutes, and was becoming increasingly frustrated, finally showed her quality picking the ball up wide on the left, she drifted past three defenders before unleashing a terrific drive into the top corner.
Heavitree won the game in the first ten mins of the second half with a couple of goals. First a good move down the middle ended with their powerful striker holding off a defender prior to firing home.
A volley just wide and a goalmouth scramble could have increased the lead before another strike of high quality finished Ammies off.
A great ball inside the left back was smashed home from the edge of the box to beat the unlucky Rose who had hardly touched the ball all afternoon apart from picking three quality strikes out of her net!
Ammies tried hard to muster a response but were finding it hard to break down a resolute Heavitree defence.
Worsley had a good shot saved then the same player fired a free kick just over the bar and Rawlings headed a corner wide as the visitors held on to claim the points
