Ravara Super Ted, winner of the 138 race at the Dartmoor point to point, was a first winner for rider Anna Wotton, from Dittisham, and a first winner for his owner Imogen Darke, 12, of Buckfastleigh.

Imogen, this time last year, was awaiting an operation to repair her skull after suffering an horrific head injury which had put her in an induced coma three months before. At that time, Imogen had been looking forward to riding Ted herself in pony races and, fingers crossed, she will maintain her incredible progress to enable that dream to come true in the future

The victory wasn’t without upset though as leader Bejowan’s Bouquet (Tina Smith), head down and riding for home, missed a crucial marker and was disqualified.

A stewards enquiry was held and the result amended. Bejowan’s Bouquet had held a half length lead at the line but had gained a few lengths by cutting inside the marker. Full credit goes to rider Tina Smith who, although she continued riding for the line as she was unsure what to do, was first to admit her error as she rode back to the paddock. Most of the spectators had been unaware anything was amiss as the error had occurred before the field turned for home.

Hannah Welch was reunited with her brilliant pony Bronze Lawrance and was a close second to Ravara Super Ted, both first and second riders having to be quick thinking to avoid collision with Bejowans Bouquet as he returned to the correct course. Michael Treneer is riding with great confidence this season and had another great result, third on My Golden Dream with the consistent Ginger Wizard (Jake Bament) in third.

Jake steps up to 148 racing next week and will have two rides.

The 148s saw one of the finishes of the season as hot favourite and long time leader Tarka (Bryony Frost) was collared on the line by the fast finishing Petite Pois (Pippa Glanville), the pair having battled out the finish along the run in. Bryony had led from the outset and almost got home, Petite Pois losing momentum when slipping on the final bend. But Pippa is nothing if not determined and pushed the pony out to win by the slimmest of margins, a short head.

Bryony has been a prolific pony race winner and this was her last ride, having graduated to riding point to pointing later in the afternoon. Missoopsadaisy (Donald Comer Calder) was four lengths back in third.

Results: 138: 1, Ravara Super Ted, Anna Wotton; 2, Bronze Lawrance, Hannah Welch; 3, My Golden Dream, Michael Treneer; 4, Ginger Wizard, Jake Bament. Seven ran, 2l, 3l 1.36.

148: 1, Petite Pois, Pippa Glanville; 2, Tarka (Bryony Frost); 3, Missoopsadaisy, Donald Comer Calder; 4, Flareon, Heidi Lewis. Five ran, Sh hd, 4l, 1.53.

The next pony races are at the Axe Vale on Sunday, May 1st with the 148s off at noon and the 138s 12.20pm. The course walk will be given by former national point to point rider Leslie Jefford,
