Town’s fifth away clean sheet of the season was the foundation for a vital win that keeps hopes of a top two finish very much alive.

First half goals from Dan Norman and Cameron Vere saw Town to their 21st victory in 28 top flight games.

Boss Josh Stunell said: “We did what we had to do. Indeed but for a combination of some poor finishing, excellent goal keeping and miss-fortune in front of goal, we’d have netted a few more. At this stage of the season winning is everything. We have two to play and simply have to win them both and then hope for a favour elsewhere.”

That favour elsewhere looks to have to come from title favourites St Martins for they are one of Topsham Town’s last five opponents and, as long as Stunell’s men win their last two at East Budleigh and Newtown, then Topsham would need to win all five of their remaining games to deny Seaton Town a top two finish.

Town’s win in Exeter was their sixth on the road in the Fresha League this season and they have now kept five clean sheets – that in stark contrast to the one shut-out they had all season at their Colyford Road home!

Just two games remain in the Town campaign; they travel to East Budleigh on Saturday and then complete their season at Newtown the following weekend (April 21).

St Martin’s are big favourites to bag the top honour, but second place is still very much in reach for Stunell and his team. He says: “As long as we win our last two there’ll be no complaints from me. If Topsham do then pip us we’ll simply have to hold our hands up and come back next year to try and do it all over again.”
