Wasps 74, Replay 20

The final game of the Exmouth & District Netball season was played out between champions Wasps and basement dwellers Replay.

With a number of players unavailable the champions went into the game with just six players knowing they would have to work hard to bag a tenth win and so end the campaign with a perfect played ten and won ten record!

The first quarter produced a succession of handling errors by both teams, but it ended with Wasps holding a 14-5 advantage.

After being prompted by skipper Louise Passmore during the break, Wasps looked much more composed in the second quarter.

Stand-in goal attack Jo Leitch revelled in her new position and goals were scored at regular intervals with the quarter ending with Wasps 38-16 to the good.

The third quarter began to mirror the second until Wasps junior, Emily Steer, arrived half way through from a match in Exeter to step into the wing defence position playing alongside her mum, Louise Passmore.

This of course allowed the youngster a rare opportunity to shout disapproval at her mother in the event of mistake making!

Replay never gave up throughout the contest and gave a considerable amount to the match which was not reflected in to the final score.

A key difference between the sides was in the finishing, clinical in the case of Wasps whilst Replay had mixed fortunes in front of the goal.

The final quarter saw Wasps centre Sasha Williams injured and once again the champions were forced to play with six.

However, they covered for the problem with the talented and athletic younger Passmore slotting seamlessly into the centre position with defensive, Sarah Harris and Louise Passmore, covering the wing defence position.

Wasps ended 74-20 winners and that meant a perfect season’s work from the team who are certainly worthy champions once more.

The respective Players of the Match were Jo Leitch the impressive Wasps goal attack and the industrious centre for Replay, Kasia Trounce.
