Hornets still top of Petroc 2

Honiton Hornets Hockey Club 2,

Tiverton White Eagles 0

For the weekend’s match Honiton travelled to Mid Devon on a cold, damp and grey morning, but the team did not let the weather conditions deter them, and put up a spirited fight from the opening whistle scoring a goal in the first five minutes, writes Ann Reed.

Laura Frank was the scorer. The next goal came towards the end of the first half when Sophie George and Kathryn Tucker seemed to be playing ‘ping pong’ with the ball, until eventually the latter was able to slip it over the line

The visitors went in at half time feeling confident of their position at that point in the game.

The home side came out hard in the second half seemingly determined to even up the score line; but this proved to be beyond them.

Although Honiton were repeatedly in the Eagles’ circle during this half the ball just would not go over the goal line. The Eagles’ goal keeper had a superb game throughout and, had it not been for her skill and tenacity, the score line would have been much more like the match earlier in the season (double figures to Honiton)

Yet another good result for Honiton - keeping the team at the top of the league. Player of the Match: Vicky Morris, closely followed by Kathryn Tucker.

Practices continue on Wednesday evenings 8-9pm on the all-weather surface adjacent to Honiton Sports Centre. This surface is not the best for hockey sticks, and it is likely to cause damage to your stick so PLEASE, if possible, use an old stick for training, Cost £2 per session. All interested in hockey - regardless of current experience and skills - will be made most welcome, so just turn up!
