It was the Tops 10th home win in 13 outings and keeps them very much on the heels of the only sides to sit above them in the top flight table, Seaton and St Martins.

Seaton also won, but they have just two to play.

If the Colyford Road outfit win at East Budleigh this Saturday and then at Newtown on April 21 it would leave Town needing to win all of their remaining five games to land second place behind champions-elect St Martins.

Lee Annunziatta’s side were at home to Heavitree last night (see how they got on at www.exmouthjournal.co.uk) and they host Willand Rovers on Saturday which completes their home programme. After that they have three to play away in the space of eight days.

They go to St Martins on April 21, then face a Monday night trip to Newtown before bringing the curtain down on their season at Alphington on Saturday, April 28.

Boss Annunziata says: “It’s a tough ask to win all five, particularly as one of them is against a side who look set to be crowned champions. That said we have a real desire and a hunger in the dressing room. If we don’t do it this term then it will not be for the want of trying. I am happy that this set of players will have given their absolute all for the club come the final kick of the season and if that isn’t quite good enough this term then we’ll go away, have a summer’s rest and then come back champing at the bit for another go next season.”
