Greenaway drives in
10:53 13 February 2013
Ladies’ Section - Against all odds the course was open on Wednesday and 48 ladies braved the elements for the new Lady Captain’s Drive-In.
There was rain, hail, sleet, biting wind and enough water underfoot for the ducks to paddle, but the winning team in this 4BBB, two scores to count, competition over 14 holes - Diana Gee, Linda Northover, Jeanne Mackinnon and Catherine Hunt - came in with a very impressive score of 64 Stableford points.
Second, with another excellent score of 62 points, were Mona Carter, Catherine Doherty, Lesley Oxenham and Jan Lloyd. New lady captain, Pam Greenaway, stepped up for her inaugural drive and the sun finally decided to shine - could this be a sign of better weather this year. Greenaway’s drive was straight down the middle and afforded Jan Dickinson the “closest the pin” prize. Good Luck Pam, have a great year.
Seniors’ Section - Sixty two seniors were pleased to get out on the course to play their first competition for a month. It was a Stableford and the sixth of the winter eclectics, played in a cold wind and on a wet track. Ron Graham won the first division with a score of 36 points and in the process was shown a red card and lost two shots from his handicap for the rest of the season.
Dave Maggs came second, and he lost one shot. On the same score of 34 were Tony Williams and Tony Proudfoot, with Don Stroud taking the last prize. Division two was won by Jack Phillips on 37. Norman Runciman scored 34 and lost one shot from his handicap. Phil Faulkner came third with 33 and the last two prizes were won by Fred Thomas and Don Leach.
