Exmouth’s 17-year-old community college student Jack Findel-Hawkins claimed his first and second Junior International Title Wins at Nottingham University over the Easter Period.
Following his great form over the last year, Jacks continuous improvement was acknowledged on the international stage during the International Tennis Federations AEGON Junior International events held at Nottingham .
The two back-to-back events included players from Holland, Portugal, Poland, India, Germany, Spain, Sweden, Croatia, Romania and Great Britain .
Jack teamed up with Hampshire’s Alex Gason, (the pair having played together last summer when winning both the 16s and 18s Boy’s National championships .The un-seeded pair dominated from the start taking two seeds out in straight sets on their way to the quarter finals where they were pushed to a third set by the number two seeds who they edged out 10-4 in the third set.
They breezed through their semi-final to book a final berth and they caped a tremendous first week of tournament play by defeating the number one seeds in the final, landing a comfortable straight sets victory.
Alex then had to return to Hampshire which meant Jack pairing up with Tommy Bennet from Sussex, the duo being seeded fifth for the second week of competition. The pair were dominant from the first serve of their opening match!
In such great form they breezed through to the final winning every match they played in straight sets to land another tournament victory.
Jack is now hoping that his exploits with two trophy wins in as many weeks will catch the eye of the Wimbledon selectors this year leading to him perhaps being allowed to play in the famous tournament later this year.
Jack returns to training at the Exeter University and studies at Exmouth Community College over the next month. He will then discuss the summer tournament schedule with Coach Will McNally.
