Exmouth Under-10s were unable to match their recent fine run of form when they played in the two-day Festival against sides from Farnham, Kingswood & Clifton from Bristol, Ivybridge, Torquay, Exeter Chiefs, and neighbouring Withycombe.

The young Cockles closed the Festival with a draw, four wins and six losses.

A poor spell in the middle of day two, where fatigue, brought on by the lack of a break, took its toll and games which were within their grasp, slipped away by the odd try.

They were obviously missing the touch line encouragement from Coach Mike Sprague!

However the players should be congratulated for the spirit in which they played on a very hard and dusty surface which resulted in several minor injuries ranging from cuts and grazes to concussion.

Stand in Coach David (Tids) Tidball’s proudest moment was a comment by the visiting Farnham coach who was impressed by the fact the Cockles made a point of shaking the hand and thanking two Farnham boys who made up the numbers when Exmouth were required to play two games at the same time.

It was a great occasion and a fitting way to end their season at home.

Thanks must be due to the army of volunteers who where in the kitchen, at the barbecue or running the teams, without whom the event could not be run.
