TWO North Devon women had a role to play when Devon Ladies picked up the runners-up trophy in the Johns Trophy inter-county competition, played on the opening day of Bowls England National Championships at Royal Leamington Spa.

Jackie Hemming-Anthony of Barnstaple Ashleigh Road Bowling Club was a member of the Devon team and Devon president Carol Rockey of Bideford Bowling Club picked up the trophy.

The Devon team, including, started well with a 137-95 win over Cambridge to secure their spot in the final.

In the final they met Lincolnshire, who had beaten Somerset earlier that day 129-91. Lincolnshire put the pressure from the start of the game, going 21 shots after five ends and finally running out 110-99 winners.
