Budleigh Salterton CC player Charlie Morris has etched his name into the cricket history books, writes Conrad Sutcliffe.
Morris is currently studying at Oxford University and last week he achieved something that no one else has ever managed in first class cricket!
Morris, who was talent spotted playing for Devon against Oxford MCCU last season, made his First Class debut for the university side against Glamorgan last Saturday.
Two balls into his second over of the morning, Morris dismissed opener Stewart Walters.
Not only was it the first wicket of the season. It was also the first time a First Class wicket had been taken in this country in the month of March!
His father John said: “The First Class season has never started in March before, but the dates have all been brought forward this season. The game was played on March 31 and Charles claimed the first wicket of the new season. I dare say in years to come it will become a quiz question: who took the earliest wicket in this country in First Class Cricket?
