Coldplay singer backs Sidmouth Oxfam Haiti earthquake appeal
COLDPLAY singer Chris Martin has urged Sidmouth residents to boost the town Oxfam's cash-appeal for devastated Haiti earthquake victims.
On Wednesday, Oxfam launched an appeal for millions of pounds following a "catastrophe of major proportions" in the country, in which thousands are feared dead, and major buildings have collapsed.
Chris, who travelled to Haiti with Oxfam in 2002 to meet coffee farmers supported by the charity, said: "It's a country of extreme poverty and brutal living conditions. Most people live in tin shacks. The earthquake that has struck Haiti will have turned the city into an unimaginable hell."
Coldplay made a donation to the appeal this week, and Glastonbury Festival organiser Emily Eavis has donated tickets to the cause.
Donations can be made at Sidmouth's Temple Street Oxfam shop, online at www.oxfam.org.uk, or call 0300 2001 999.
