Joss signs in to help Christmas card contest
A STAR Christmas gift is in store for winners of the North Devon Gazette and Amigos charity "Design a Christmas Card" competition.
As an extra prize the winners will be presented with framed copies of their their artwork signed and presented to them by Devon's own singing star Joss Stone!
This follows news - which broke too late for last week's Gazette - that the world famous soul singer is to switch on the Christmas lights in Barnstaple on November 18.
More good news is that it is not too late to enter.
The competition is split into three categories - primary school age, secondary school age and adult. Send your Christmas or Africa related designs to Phil Pugsley, Amigos, 7a Beech Grove, Pilton, Barnstaple. EX31 1PZ Entries close on September 1.
The switch-on will be the culmination of "Amigos month" in Barnstaple with the aim of raising as much money as possible for the local charity. As well as sponsoring the education of more than 100 orphans, the team of North Devon volunteers need to raise £25,000 to complete phase one of a new farm training school in Uganda.
Joss is a friend of the Barnstaple-based charity. She was so touched by the care and compassion shown by the volunteers from Amigos that she accompanied them on a trip to the capital Kampala in April last year. On her return she sponsored the education of two young children.
She accepted the invitation to light up Barnstaple after town centre bosses chose Amigos as their selected charity for the fund-raising switch on.
