Wet weather causes chaos and there’s more rain and ‘gusty’ winds on the way this week.

NORTH Devon’s motorists have been facing some disruption today (Tues) as the wet weather continues to cause havoc on the roads.

Devon County Council has confirmed it has had ‘a lot’ of reports of bad surface water on the A39 between Blackmoor Gate and Barbrook.

A spokesman said: “We’ve had reports of a lot of water coming off the fields which is leading to surface water, making driving difficult in places.”

An amber warning of rain has been issued by the Met Office for North Devon today until 6am tomorrow and further rain is expected later this week.

There is also a yellow warning of wind for the region with ‘gusty’ conditions and heavy showers.

Today, the Met Office also issued a yellow warning of rain for the region for Friday.

A spokesman for the forecasters said: “Another spell of heavy and persistent rain may spread to parts of Wales and southern England during Friday.

“Given the saturated state of the ground and high river levels, the public should be aware that further localised flooding and disruption to travel is possible.

“The rain may also be accompanied by strong winds with potential for gales or severe gales around exposed coasts and over hills.”

There was also some disruption earlier today when a landslide caused a partial blockage on the A386.

Early reports on Twitter suggested there was some disruption to the road, but the council spokesman confirmed the debris is being cleared and the road is not obstructed and remains open.

Flooding on the A386 New Road between the Torridge Hill Junction and the A388 junction has also been reported.
