Updated: Broken down 64-tonne crane blocks two lanes on A361 Link Road

Motorists are urged to travel with care, especially during rush hour, and expect delays while the crane awaits recovery.

Further update: At 7.30pm police left the vehicle in the hands of engineers.

Update 5.25pm: A police spokesman said officers on the scene are still awaiting recovery which is estimated to still be at least another hour. Motorists are advised to avoid the area if possible during rush hour.

A 64-TONNE crane has broken down on the A361 Link Road blocking two lanes and causing traffic chaos today (Mon).

The vehicle suffered a snapped exhaust pipe around 2.40pm which caused the air pipes to melt.

Police are currently on scene at the junction of the B3227 in Bishop’s Nympton directing traffic through the single remaining lane.

Commuters could face long queues at rush hour as the vehicle, which is unable to move, is not expected to be recovered until at least 5pm.

Motorists are advised to travel with care when approaching the area and be aware of delays.
