HEALTHY DISCUSSION: A talk by Dr Martin James on Maintain Your Brain will be held at The Baptist Church Hall, Elm Street, Exmouth, at 8pm, on Monday, January 28.

It is aimed at people affected by high blood pressure, strokes or hypertension.

This is a free talk to encourage people to be aware of how to improve their health.

All are welcome to the event, which organised by the Imperial Surgery and Patients Group.

MATRON SUCCESS: Hospital bosses in East Devon say visits by senior nurses and midwives to talk with patients on every ward are ‘proving their value’, seven months after being introduced.

The matron walk-rounds were first used by the Northern Devon Healthcare NHS Trust, which manages hospitals in places like Exmouth and Budleigh, in July 2012.

The system is in line with the ‘six Cs’ set out by England’s chief nursing officer Jane Cummings; care, compassion, competence, communication, courage and commitment.

It means each ward at the trust’s 18 hospitals across Devon is checked regularly by senior nurses to speak to patients and staff and collate the feedback to identify trends where improvements could be made.

Tina Naldrett, who oversees nursing in the trust’s eastern hospitals, said: “Patients appreciate the presence and visibility of a senior nurse.”

AVENUES PLAN: Renewed permission to build two homes at 10 Cranford Avenue has been supported by Exmouth Town Council.

East Devon District Council will now make the final decision on the plan.
