Police have arrested two men and are hunting for two others after the attempted theft of a cash machine from an Exmouth garage.
The incident took place at the BP garage at Courtlands Cross this morning at 1.50am. Police were alerted by a member of the public to a disturbance, and on arrival officers saw a group of men trying to steal the machine.
A man who ran down a lane was swiftly apprehended.
Two other men got into an Audi A8 car with stolen plates on and drove off.
The car was found crashed nearby, from where dog teams tracked down a man, but were unable to find another.
A police spokesman said the two arrested men, both from Liverpool, are aged 25 and 28.
The spokesman also said police were hunting two other men in connection with the incident.
Enquiries are continuing.
Police are asking for anyone who may have information about the incident, or who has seen or heard anything suspicious, to contact them on 101, quoting crime reference number KE/12/2645.
