New parking restrictions are set to be introduced near Exmouth Marina, after what residents say has been “years of misery”.
Exmouth Town Council has given its support to the plan, put forward by Devon County Council, to introduce new restrictions on Shelly Reach and Shelly Road.
Before their decision, chairman of Exmouth Quay Residents Association Ian Dowell told councillors: “Shelly Reach has caused us years of misery, particularly at summer weekends, because of anti-social parking at particular points.
“It’s the only access for residents and the sailing club. On several occasions we’ve seen vehicles not get through because of blockages, and some confrontations have almost ended in punch-ups.”
Ward councillor Eileen Wragg said parking in Shelly Reach had been an ongoing problem for a number of years.
Councillors agreed to support the planned restrictions in principle, however following concerns raised by other residents there will be further negotiations about how many parking bays will be on Shelly Reach.
