I have just been the recipient of an utterly unexpected kindness.
Weighed down with parcels I called at the Budleigh Salterton Library to see if the new books for the book club, of which I am a member, had come in. They had. Ten enormous hard-backed books.
When I said I could not take them but would call back later, someone standing next to me said she would help. It was Mrs Vanstone, the town clerk, who insisted on carrying all the books back home for me.
I have always found that the Budleigh Salterton Library is staffed by the friendliest and most helpful people, but this extends to the customers as well.
Yet another instance of helpfulness and generosity of the people who live here, and I count myself fortunate to be one of the residents of this unique town.
