Sidmouth folk turn out in force for Jordon Cross fund raising night

A CHARITY night with disco and karaoke in Sidbury has raised nearly £1,300 for Vranch House School, Exeter.

Hailed as an “outstanding success” by organisers, it is hoped to make the fund-raising evening an annual event for charity.

The event was organised in memory of Sidbury teenager Jordon Cross from Greenhead, who died last December from Duchenne muscular dystrophy, a rare muscle wasting disease, aged 18.

In all £1,286.50 was presented to Sue Gould from Vranch House, which Jordon attended.

“It was a brilliant night and it was nice to see people turn out in force,” said Julie, from Furzehill, a friend of the Cross family, who organised the karaoke.

Jackie Harvey, also from Furzehill, boosted the coffers with her sing or not sing bucket collections and many more paid to hear her unique rendition of Wuthering Heights, which, said organisers, will not be forgotten for some time.

Jackie said: “A lot of people from Sidmouth attended, which was fantastic. It may be an annual event for charity.”

Many people were generous in donating items for a prize draw and auction, from cuddly toys to a helicopter ride for two.
