Council workmen remove hazardous metal tubing exposed by cliff movement at West Walk

Part of Seaton seafront was closed to protect walkers at the weekend.

Firefighters were called to West Walk at around noon, on Saturday, after a cliff fall exposed a metal bar which was in a precarious location behind beach huts.

Fearing people walking beneath were at risk the crew called East Devon District Council which sent officials to immediately seal off the area.

Workmen returned today (Monday) to remove the hazard and the esplanade was reopened to the public

An East Devon District Council spokesman said: “We temporarily closed a section of West Walk on Sunday following reports of metal tubing sticking out from the cliff face.

“Our Street Scene team responded quickly to the issue and removed the tubing by hand on Monday morning, reopening the West Walk soon after.”
