Barnstaple Link Rotary launch the draw whose tickets are ‘as good as money’ for clubs and fund raisers.
THE credit crunch-busting Rotary Megadraw has launched into it 10th year with the prospect of raising thousands of pounds for North Devon clubs and good causes.
The format is simple: Local groups apply for draw tickets and get to keep all the proceeds of every ticket they sell.
The Megadraw was introduced by Barnstaple Link Rotary Club, which still administers it with the help of the other North Devon clubs - to date it has raised more than £200,000.
Then in November there will be a grand draw night and the winners of dozens of top prizes will be pulled out of the hat.
Launching the 2012 Rotary Megadraw, organiser Lewis Baglow said the draw tickets were “just like real money”.
“This year more than any other will be the year for clubs and good causes that help so many people to take part and raise funds for their organisation,” he said.
“All the money from every ticket sold is kept by the organisation selling them, without costing a penny.”
Last year more than 100 good causes took part, including Ilfracombe and North Devon Sub Aqua Club, which tried Megadraw for the first time and raised £400 for new equipment.
Barnstaple Swimming Club raised enough to replace lanes and water polo balls, while school PTA groups have used it often to raise money for a variety of activities.
There is no cost or risk. Rotary Clubs provide the printed tickets, lottery license, printing and all prizes as well as arranging the public draw ceremony at the end of the year.
All clubs have to do is return the ticket counterfoils – and keep the money.
