Withycombe Methodist Church started knitting jumpers after hearing about so-called ‘fish and chip babies’ – babies sent home from hospitals in Uganda wrapped in newspapers for warmth, because of a lack of suitable clothing.

Word got out about the project, and more than 300 jumpers have now been knitted, including contributions from groups including Withycombe Raleigh and Exmouth WI, Withycombe Parish Church, the Over 60’s club at All Saint’s Church, Tedburn St Mary Methodist Church, Third Age Project, Glenorchy Church, Holy Ghost Catholic Church and Tower Street and Littlemead Methodist Churches.

The jumpers will now be sent to Africa by charity Tools With A Mission.
