Forgotten promises

What a wonderful evening to be able to attend a Cabinet EDDC meeting.

To hear and see first hand how those we voted as our councillors actually perform.

Yes it was that old chestnut, the Elizabeth Hall, one of the items on the agenda.

I must be very naive as I’ve always thought of those in ‘power’ to be honest.

Do we deserve councillors who, when deciding what they want for Exmouth, suggest that all those people who signed the petition for the Elizabeth Hall were coerced into signing.

What happened to the councillors’ manifesto, the promise at the elections stating that ‘They were committed to no specific development on the seafront.’

Councillor Tim Wood stated that the area behind the Elizabeth Hall was unsightly. He means the Bath Road that is reguarly used and a pleasant area.

Councillor Jill Elson listed many reasons for Elizabeth Hall to be demolished, she even stated that ‘the orchestra could use Rolle College.’ Is this the Rolle College that has been empty for years? There is no time scale for when the derelict buillding could be made habitable or even if able to be used before 2014.

Councillor John Humphreys put his point across for the demolition of Elizabeth Hall, but he could have used a different speech, not the same as used at the Monday town council meeting.

Do Cabinet EDDC councillors visit areas, buildings, sites that they are making decisions on or do they just take the word of those local councillors who want things their way? Councillor Jill Elson did state that there has been interest in the site, 11 so far, that the town will probably have a community hall with flats above.

Will this be affordable housing, oops sorry, affordable probably does not apply to flats.
