Floods hit Exmouth

Heavy rain last night (Tuesday) has led to major flooding in several parts of Exmouth.

While a perfect storm of flooded roads, abandoned cars and road works at Woodbury Common, East Budleigh Bridge and on Salterton Road resulted in gridlocked roads with hundreds of commuters unable to get to work.

Commuters struggled at every turn, with every route out of the town all but impassable.

The Environment Agency have confirmed numerous reports of roads flooding around the County with 11 flood warnings are in force with reports of some rivers and brooks breaching their banks.

County highways chief Stuart Hughes said: “The advice is unless it’s really necessary, stay at home.”

Properties have been flooded in New Street, Exmouth because heavy rain fall has resulted in of tidal flood waters being unable to drain. The fire brigade are in attendance.

Featherbed Lane flooded, with the road submerged.

Large pockets of water collecting at the top of Dinan Way.

Highways officers turning people back to Exmouth on the A376.

Congestion at Lympstone railway station; road through the village is flooded and villagers are trying to get to Exeter by rail.

Tailbacks caused by cars having to be rescued in rising flood waters near Woodbury and the East Budleigh to Yettington Road.

Drivers avoiding the road works at East Budleigh Bridge using the village and

B3179 Clyst St George two cars stuck queuing onto A376.

Delays on the M5 due to a number of accidents

Trains running an hour late from Exeter St David’s.
