Tom Earls’ letter about developments within the area of Withycombe Brook gives a much needed reminder of the true picture.
His concern for not only his own “up town” new area but the older “down town” area is much appreciated by those of us who have seen what damage that brook can do.
Remember, the area that will be flooded is the town centre and surrounding areas. It’s absolutely huge, right down to the Marina for starters.
On Wednesday, June 13 we lost one of our bonniest fighters for the town of Exmouth, the much loved and respected Joe Radjick. What he didn’t know about water and the harm it can cause is not worth knowing. He presented all his findings to all the relevant authorities, they have them on file. They cannot say they weren’t warned, yet I fear they have paid scant attention to them.
However, the fact that he did warn them is on record and therefore, if we get flooded, our insurers will be able to claim restitution. That’s more than can be said about 1960, when the brook caught us all unawares.
