Princess urgently needed to take part in next year’s Lyme Regis Mummers play

Organisers of next year’s Lyme Regis Mummers play are in distress – they have no damsel.

Harry Ford, 24, who reintroduced the ancient form of street entertainment in January, is planning a repeat performance next month.

But Georgia Robson, 18, who took the role of the princess last time, is going to be in Pakistan in the New Year doing work experience.

“Without a damsel you could say that Lyme Regis Mummers are in distress,” said Harry, who is the playwright and director.

He said rehearsals are already under way as there is hope that a princess will turn up soon.

Danny Anholt, whose horseback portrayal of Sir George wowed the audience last year, explained: “I hold out hope that there are ladies out there who need a hero as much as Sir George needs a heroine.’

“If any young ladies are keen to audition they are invited to leave their names and contact details at the desk of Lyme Regis Museum.”

The Lyme Regis Mummers play will set off from outside the town’s museum at 4.30pm on Saturday, January 12.
