New Rotary president hopes to give club some va-va-voom.

A SECOND-hand car salesman has been handed the keys to the presidency of Barnstaple Link Rotary Club.

Chas Green, who owns Chas Green Cars in Mill Road, Barnstaple, said he hopes to get the club on song in a fun-filed year a fund-raising for the wider community.

“The main thing is to have fun while engaging in meaningful activities,” he said.

“One of our members is Nigel Brooks, the music impresario, and I am considering asking him to write a song for us; after all if the grannies can finish runners up in Eurovision, who knows what we can achieve.”

Mr Green, who was born in North Molton but now lives in Newport, said he was hoping to use his year as president to focus on youth, while retaining the club’s commitment to helping those in need whatever their age, while fostering ties with other local groups.

“When I first joined, it was a much smaller, younger, but vibrant club that knew how to have fun,” he said.

“Little has changed over the years other than we have put on a few years and need some younger people to come and re-energises us.”

He said he would like to see more initiatives that can work in harmony with other clubs and organisations to help those in need in North Devon.
