Holsworthy and Bideford Cats Protection keen to recruit new fosterers as numbers of rescued cats rise.

THE credit crunch and a lack of foster homes are threatening to overrun Holsworthy, Bideford and District Cats Protection branch with cats and kittens.

The branch has already rehomed more cats than last year but the charity’s waiting list to take on cats is getting longer and longer due to a lack of space and fosterers.

There is a desperate need for more fosterers in and around the Bideford EX39 post code area as at presents the charity only has a handful of fosterers and the cat cabins are always full.

“This is very worrying for our welfare officer Creina Mandry who answers the ‘Catline’ as she has to turn more and more people away and of course the worry is where do these cats end up?” said branch treasurer Cathy Barber.

“Priority is always given to kittens, pregnant cats and stray or lost cats living outside, but many calls are coming from people who are moving home, have lost their jobs or can no longer look after their pet for financial reasons.”

The branch would love to hear from anyone who has a spare room to enable them to foster indoors or people who have a large enough garden to accommodate a cat pen.

Fosterers need to be at home for at least part of the day and have transport to enable them to do vet runs. Although this is a voluntary position, food, litter and other items are supplied.

The set up costs are quite high and if people are interested they are asked to commit to a couple of years if possible. To find out more call 0845 371 2717 or email @holsworthycats.org.

The charity would of course also like to hear from anyone who would like to rehome a cat.
