Topsham charity Devon in Sight is set to receive a boost after being named as a local tourist attraction’s charity of the year.
Powderham Castle has chosen the charity for the accolade – meaning it will be able to place collection tins and information leaflets around the attraction for visitors to find out more and donate.
The castle already has links to Devon in Sight through Lady Devon, a patron of the charity whose mother-in-law, the former Lady Devon, used the charity’s services.
It attracts thousands of visitors every year and hosts major events – including an upcoming gig by boy band JLS.
Devon in Sight will also be holding its own events at the castle throughout the summer.
Director of services Martin Pallett said: “As a charity dependent on fundraising activity to help approximately 2,000 visually impaired people per year, we are extremely appreciative of Powderham Castle’s support.
“Everyone at the charity very much looks forward to working with the castle in fundraising initiatives in the months ahead.”
Powderham Castle’s Simon Fishwick told the Journal: “Powderham Castle plays host to many charity events throughout the year, raising thousands of pounds for many good causes.
“We hope that the monies we raise throughout 2012 will provide much needed funds for Devon in Sight to provide advice and practical solutions to visually impaired people living in Devon.”
