Work to start on the new community centre next month.

The contractor for the Beehive Community Centre, which is soon to be built in Honiton, has been revealed.

Midas Construction has been chosen by Honiton Town Council to undertake the building project and will be moving onto the site at the end of the month - with work starting on March 4.

The town’s mayor, Councillor David Foster, said: “It is fantastic that after all the years of talk and discussion we are at last about to turn dreams into reality.

“The Beehive will be a much needed facility for the whole community and for future generations.”

Councillor Nick Cornwell, who has been chairman of the steering group, said: “We are very pleased that Midas has been selected.

“They are a West Country company with a good reputation and are a team we can work with.

“They have a good reputation of engaging with the local community during builds and also looking to support local employment.”

During the period of the build buses and coaches have been allocated alternative parking at Heathpark.

Local permit holders have also been contacted by East Devon District Council regarding alternative parking arrangements.

Ian Pitman, the director of Midas Construction, said: “We are really looking forward to working with Honiton Town Council and the rest of the team to deliver this extremely prestigious project which follows on from many other projects carried out in East Devon”

There will be a chance for local sub-contractors to meet with Midas to discuss opportunities on site at a meeting to be arranged soon.
