Four schools in the Axe Valley Beacon Federation are supporting the Axminster and Seaton foodbank appeal

The four schools of the Axe Valley Beacon Federation are supporting the Seaton and Axminster food banks this Christmas.

The governing body of the partnership – which includes Colyton, Kilmington, Shute and Seaton primary schools – voted to support a cause on their doorstep, one which can make all the difference at Christmas.

Children from the four schools are collecting food, luxury goods, books and toys in good condition. This ensures that, for those families that need help, there’s food on the table and presents to exchange at Christmas.

The banks aim to support low-income families and the elderly in Axminster and Seaton, taking referrals from a variety of sources, including local CABs, social services, medical centres and the job centre.

Alan Simpson, executive head of the Axe Beacon Federation, told The Herald: “Our four schools are at the heart of the Axe Valley so it seemed right, in a time of continued economic hardship, to look after those in our community who find themselves in difficulty at Christmas.”
