How many of you remember the Woodbury Castle Tea Cottage? This was situated right in the middle of the Castle wood and a most popular place for a Sunday afternoon tea in particular. I remember being taken there many times in my youth, by my parents.
As people lived a more sedate lifestyle back in the 1940s and 50s there was obviously quite a need to have a place for refreshment on this beauty spot. The cottage in the Castle provided this for many years, but sadly fell in to disrepair and was attacked by vandals. It had to be demolished for safety reasons. Despite being the highest property in Woodbury it had no view as it was totally surrounded by trees. Passing through the Castle today there is no trace left of this unique cottage - yet another piece of Woodbury's history gone forever! |
