Exmouth man sentenced after stealing mobile phone

AN EXMOUTH man was sentenced to a community order and made to pay £125 in legal costs after stealing a mobile phone and two memory cards from Tesco.

Daniel Littlewood, of Copperfield Close, stole a Belkin phone and two memory cards from Tesco supermarket, in Russell Way, Exeter, last October, Central Devon Magistrates Court heard.

The 31-year-old, who entered a guilty plea, had also failed to surrender to custody at the court having been released on bail in criminal proceedings which took place that month.

Prosecutor, Karen Ball said: "Mr Littlewood was seen in Tesco having tried to take the items and was challenged by a member of staff.

"Following his arrest he remained silent and all the items were recovered."

The court heard how Littlewood had a past drug addiction problem.

Defence solicitor Jeremy Tricks said: "He accepts that the crime was wrong and he is clean of drugs."

District judge Paul Farmer said: "I will give credit for your guilty plea.

Mr Farmer, speaking about Littlewood's drug problems, added: "It would seem you are now proving negative screens in terms of the addiction."

Littlewood was made the subject of a community order and made to pay £125 in legal costs.
