Exmouth rallies to help Littleham Brownies and Guides

EXMOUTH has begun rallying around Littleham's Brownies, Guides and Rainbows - who face the axe unless new premises can be found.

The 52 youngsters believe they could soon be without a place to hold weekly meetings because it is thought Glenorchy Church plans to sell off its Salterton Road building, where the groups meet.

District Commissioner for Exmouth and Budleigh Salterton Jacky Wilton said she had received a number of positive calls since the Journal last week highlighted the girls' plight.

She said local schools and community halls had been in touch to offer the groups a new venue.

Mrs Wilton said all suggestions and offers would be explored, but the cost of hiring a new venue would impact on any final decision.

She said: "If we need to, we will go into a school temporarily. "Ideally I would like to keep the group in Littleham, because a lot of the girls come from that area.

"I would like to thank the people who have already contacted me.

"We are going to look at everything and make a decision as a group.

"The parents are concerned, but we have told them we will keep the girls together.

"I am sure we will find what we need to keep it going. I am hopeful, even if I have to move the girls into town."
