Hmm [^o)] "No Smoking" Legislation - 1st July 2007
Reply Quote

Has anyone got any views on the Smoking Ban that comes into force in the summer? One eating and drinking establishment in Sidmouth has already introduced a ban and claims (in the Sidmouth Herald) that trade has increased. (The increase in trade is probably more to do with the MSC Napoli and fantastic April weather we had!)

Will we have to run the gauntlet of evicted smokers outside offices, shops and pubs in the town when this comes into force?

Freedom of choice!

I am not a smoker and lost my first wife (also a non smoker) to lung cancer 15 years ago. Both of my children smoke despite this but not in my home or when I am about. If I wish to go where  smoking takes place then I have to make that choice. A visit to the pub, if I could afford it on my pension, is my choice. No matter what people think about it (smoking) the option is for the management of such a business to either allow or ban smoking in some manner. times, places, separate rooms outside booths etc. In eating establishments, public service vehicles, trains (non smoking carrages) however I believe a total ban is needed.

Why aren't the council enforcing the smoking ban in their own properties - there are cigarette buts and empty drink containers left in the seafront shelters, in Sidmouth, on an almost daily basis. Council staff were purported to be going round the pubs checking on smoking when this law came in.

If they cannot keep their own backyard clean they will have to prosecute themselves!

Hmm [^o)] Stick out tongue [:P]
