What is happening at QS? They have got a sale notice up - 'all stock must go' etc - are they closing down as well? One of the staff has said it is because their lease has come to an end.

It's good to see that some empty shops in Exmouth will be getting a new lease of life: a closed card shop in the Magnolia Centre has been taken on by 'Oggy Oggy' (wonder what they sell?!), and Belvedere Furnishing in Exeter Road - but that will be yet another charity shop. Iceland, in the old Woolies, seems to be very successful - it has some pretty good food, too (at good prices).

The lease may well be coming to an end but I've heard that QS are undergoing a name change and they've got to get rid of all the stock with current QS labels - so what better way of doing it than another bogus sale. Most of the retailers are at it - a well known shoe retailer in town would have had us believe they were 'closing down' but closer examination of the signs shows one sale was for a shop refit (move a few shelves around) and another sale was because they were 'moving their warehouse'.
I wonder if QS are coming to the end of their leases in any other towns?
I see that the card shop on the market square now has a "retirement sale" - ? is that the new term for closing down sale or does it just mean a change in ownership? will it still be a card shop?
If the proprietor was packing it in I would have thought they could have sold on the stock to the new owner. I wonder why they want to get rid of it? After all - why sell the goods at a 50% discount unless there are other plans for the premises?
why do we need yet another coffee shop? are there not enough already? (much like there are too many hairdressers). what the town really needs is a proper stationery shop.
The new 'coffee shop' will primarily be for the 'visitor trade' - as they leave the seafront to get out of the rain or when they are waiting for their coaches to take them back to Exmouth and Torquay.
At least the various hairdressers serve the local community.
Don't you think this town is more reliant on 'daytrippers' now? Or is that another thread?
