A call to all fellow motorcyclists. On Mothers Day Sunday March the 14th. A mass ride is organised for "Afghan Heroes" The ride will pass through Wootton Bassett and terminate at RAF Lyneham. Registration is required and there is a cost of £5 each payable when we get there, you will receive an "Afghan Heroes" armband and the proceeds will be given to the charity.
So far nearly 5000 riders have registered and registration ends on 15th Feb. I would like to post a link, but it is against Forum Rules. So I suggest that you put three W's in front of the words afghanheroes then a dot, then org then a dot and then uk. There is a link from that page to further info on the ride.
Or just type Afghanheroes into Facebook or google and you will find it. We have a good few going from this area, so if anyone is interested, contact me and you could ride up to Leigh Delamere services with us...The More The Merrier.
Pleas Note: This is a ride in support of our troops and the residents of Wootton Bassett, it is not a political rally or a rascist event, in any way shape or form. Please join us for a good ride and lets hope the sun shines.. It is criminal to steal a purse, daring to steal a fortune, a mark of greatness to steal a crown. The blame diminishes as the guilt increases
For info, there are currently over 9000 riders registered to be taking part in the ride, coming from all over the UK and Europe. This could possibly turn into the biggest show of support for our military seen in the UK. Currently there are riders stopping at Moto services at 8 am, then a large number are meeting at Sedgemoor Services at 9 am. Prospective arrival at Leigh Delamere services is 10.30 am. Any changes I will post. Registration is still open so be quick.... It is criminal to steal a purse, daring to steal a fortune, a mark of greatness to steal a crown. The registration for this ride is now closed early. Response has been overwhelming and over 10 thousand riders have registered to attend. The main reason for registration, was for access to RAF Lyneham and security. The organizers have met the Police and agreed to halt the registration early. So those who have not signed up will not be able to enter Lyneham. It is criminal to steal a purse, daring to steal a fortune, a mark of greatness to steal a crown. Currently, they are trying to sort out a new venue to replace RAF Lyneham. Due to 10,000 plus bikers having registered Lyneham have said they cannot cope, so whilst the ride through Wootton Bassett is still a "go", they are sorting an alternative muster point. But we shall know the full "SP" soon....
It is an awesome tribute that so many have registered and so many more still do.....Lets hope we raise a nice little pile for the Afghan Heroes charity and the sun shines.. Mother’s day ride through Wootton Bassett – Official Announcement.
The Following announcement has been passed
to us by the event organisers. This replaces all previous
announcements. The FAQ will be updated to reflect this new information.
An announcement… and at last it’s great news!
All the agencies (Police, MOD & Local Authorities) have come
together to make the Mother’s day ride through Wootton Bassett possible.
The ride will now start within the Hullavington Airfield nr Buckley
army barracks (A429) and all of the 10331 registered riders will pass
through Wootton Bassett before dispersing. All registered riders will
soon receive (by email) full instructions/documentation of the route,
arrival / leaving times, a proof of registration and the method by
which we are going to get this many riders through a small Wiltshire
village safely and without causing total gridlock.
We absolutely understand how difficult it must be for those that
missed registration however must ask non-registered riders NOT TO
ATTEND; As this poses a major threat to fellow bikers who would be at
very high risk if left stationary on the M4 motorway as a result of any
of the local junctions becoming blocked.
We must stress that ONLY REGISTERED RIDERS will be able to go on the organised ride.
We would like to thank The Unity Ride team for their assistance in the negotiations, planning and kind offer to marshal.
Thank you everybody who has offered their help for this event. If
you still would like to contribute your time or services then please
use the contact form on the Official Afghan Heroes web site and tell us
what you can provide.
