Arrogant! Rude! Pompous! Ignorant! Topsham resident caps them all...
There are very few times, when I "see red", but today, I witnessed one of the most ignorant arrogant acts I have seen in quite a few years. I decided to "ride out" on my motorcycle, to watch the "hardy souls" finish the "Force Cancer Charity" 100 mile and 50 mile ride. The start and finish was Topsham Rugby Club and my brother Stuart, fresh from his 100 mile success a couple of weeks ago in aid of the Gurkha s, was riding the Force Cancer 100 mile route. To give him some moral support I headed toward Topsham, with the intent of riding through and retracing the route towards Crediton, in the hope of getting a few pictures of him and cheering him on. As I passed Topsham RFC, my phone received a text telling me he had finished already! (6 Hours 28 minutes for 100 miles) So a quick U turn was in order and I pulled into the club, where 100's of cyclists were receiving their medals and having a well deserved drink and a bite to eat, whilst cheering on the many hundreds more who were coming out from Exeter on the final leg, exhausted but buzzing, that they had stayed the course and succeeded the arduous challenge, raising tens of thousands of pounds for a charity that gives vital support to Cancer sufferers. I found a very happy but tired "big brother" and we had a quick celebratory drink and he mustered his energy to ride the last leg home to Lympstone. I donned my helmet and body armour and went to exit the Rugby Club, when Topshams very own "Victor Meldrew" decided to stop his light green car across the entrance to the club, where the marshals were trying to safely usher in the exhausted cyclists, and wind his passenger window down, to berate the marshals as "WHY AREN'T THESE ###### CYCLISTS ON THE CYCLE PATH!!! RANT RANT RANT", the marshal tried to inform him, that it was a charity event and that all these cyclist were raising money for charity, but Victor had to throw his teddy out the pram and have a little paddy! so he was promptly told to "move along as he was causing a road hazard !" I followed him into Topsham and was intent on turning after him down Parkfield Road, but in the end "left it" for I was in no mood to be polite! Especially as I watched my father die of Cancer and the sterling work done by "Force" and their like is invaluable. It just saddens me that someone of mature years could be such an arrogant, pompous, small minded idiot, when so many men, women and children had given up their Sunday to take part in an event, which has been going through Topsham at this time of year for nearly 11 years and has become a "Jewel in the crown" of cycling charity events in the South West. What is wrong with showing a little patience behind the wheel and some consideration to other road users, who have done nothing wrong, but perhaps slow down your journey by a few minutes.....YOU SHOULD BE ASHAMED OF YOURSELF!!!!!!!!!!!!!! It is criminal to steal a purse, daring to steal a fortune, a mark of greatness to steal a crown. The blame diminishes as the guilt increases
