Hugo Swire, BIG RESPECT (and you lost it when i read your expenses!)
Would just like to say a big thanks to our local MP The Right Honourable Hugo Swire, for taking the time to answer an e mail I sent him, asking for his support in today's vote by Nick Clegg of the Lib Dems to challenge the governments devious and immoral treatment of the brave Gurkhas and their families. Thanks to a joint effort by the conservatives and the lib dems, plus additional support from a few labour MP's still with morals! The Gurkhas "won the day" and "Gordo" got pasted.....
Mr Swire, not only answered my e mail in double quick time, but was kind enough to send me a copy of the Conservatives policy, re the Gurkhas.
So top marks Mr Swire, for being a generally "good egg"!
Let us hope it isn't too long before "Broons Boys" are replaced and Mr Swire and his cohorts. Perhaps they can return this country to some level of sanity?
Having just read Mr Swire,s expenses, I can honestly say, I earnestly hope he never gets to step inside the hallowed halls of Westminster...!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! It is criminal to steal a purse, daring to steal a fortune, a mark of greatness to steal a crown. The blame diminishes as the guilt increases
Nice to see you back! The forum has been like an intellectual "Gobi Desert" without your musings. Interesting facts about Hugo though, didn't realise he was so high in the "expenses league table"! My comment re him, was more based on his interaction with myself over the Gurkha's. I would disagree with you on the "Mercenaries" tag for the Gurkha's however, Mercenaries fight for whom so ever pays them the most and have no allegiance other than to "cold hard cash", the Gurkhas have been loyal British subjects over the years and they have been involved in some of the most arduous military actions. Earning many awards for their selfless bravery under fire. Mercenaries tend to "swop sides" if it looks like there is a chance of losing life or limb! My main complaint with the Gurkhas treatment, is that the numbers involved is minimal, in comparison with the hordes of "asylum seekers", eastern european criminals and workshy scum, the Labour government allows into this country with no checks. At least the Gurkhas are "on our side"! Hey ho, nice to see you back....... It is criminal to steal a purse, daring to steal a fortune, a mark of greatness to steal a crown. The blame diminishes as the guilt increases
Today the list of MP's Parliamentary expenses was issued ... and I thought I'd take a shufty at squire Swire's claims! You'd need a fair bit of time to hack through all the deletions and daft mistakes and so on, but I did wonder why we pay for his poor choice of Newspaper? This must be the only post which allows the purchase of consumable media to be paid for out of the public purse .. they get away with murder don't they!! and he seems to have had an interesting purchasing day on 12th December 2007 .. just a few days from Christmas, when he purchased a Camera and accessories from Harrods, and an expensive Toshiba laptop from John Lewis , and a Satnav in early 2008.Interesting when he travels frequently by taxi and train. You'd have thought that as a salaried (but non executive) director of a Photo booth operation he'd have had a previous interest in photography.. .. bought some nice stuff from Mulberry in Bond St too and all of these items were purchased exclusively for his Parliamentary duties ... call me cynical but , !!
and the puerile argument that "no rules were broken" won't wash with an educated public. You don't need to have passed the 11+ to work out who makes the rules, and why!
and yet they want more money, even when people are queuing up to stuff money in their fat little hands to display The Rt Hon Hugo Swire MP stamped on a letterhead ! Yep , the place needs a good disinfecting
".. bought some nice stuff from Mulberry in Bond St too"
Allegedly a laptop case.........obviously the £50 Targus ones from PC World are below him! Hey ho, suppose its not a problem when it is someone elses money....... It is criminal to steal a purse, daring to steal a fortune, a mark of greatness to steal a crown. The blame diminishes as the guilt increases
Newsflash ... The camera from Harrods was the third in a year ..others from Dixons and Jessops . Swire explained that he likes one in his briefcase, one in his office and just one more at home! ... and, Ian, if the Mulberry purchase was a case, then it cost nearly £400
Phil Griffins centre page spread makes you wonder whether the Journal editor is asking the right ( sorry! correct) questions of our MP .. as far as Hugo is concerned, the questions are RIGHT
I was under the impression that all purchases were to be used for parliamentary business, so surely three cameras is a flagrant waste, also £1199 for a Toshiba laptop from John Lewis!!! Best Value? surely not! It is criminal to steal a purse, daring to steal a fortune, a mark of greatness to steal a crown. The blame diminishes as the guilt increases
And!!!! If Hugo had looked on one of the price comparison sites such as CIAO, he could have saved the tax payer some money, as his Toshiba Portage R500 10J Ultra thin notebook can be purchased for £803.85 plus £6.88 p and p. But never mind Hugo, its not your money is it! That £300 would probably have saved the life of a soldier in Afghanistan, by paying for a decent set of body armour! but you have got a nice shiny notebook. I have never been so unimpressed with any MP in my entire life............... It is criminal to steal a purse, daring to steal a fortune, a mark of greatness to steal a crown. The blame diminishes as the guilt increases
Tea!!!!!!!!!! I think this calls for something stronger! It is criminal to steal a purse, daring to steal a fortune, a mark of greatness to steal a crown. The blame diminishes as the guilt increases

incurred by the East Devon Conservative Association... provision of
office facilities, administration and secretarial staff and advice

More instances of our local MP ... what shall we say , stealing from the public purse to recompense his party for their expenditure helping to keep him in office, and other items not commensurate with what the public might see as Parliamentary essential expenditure!! This is yet another flagrant breach of Parliamentary rules , and yet another reason for the man to be excluded from public office, expulsion from the conservative party and investigation by the police.... sadly, he isn't the only MP guilty of these misappropriations of public money.. No wonder we're one of the highest taxed populations (if not THE highest) on the planet !
I see Hugo's address is on the tom tom receipt. You'd send him a t**d in the post if you didn't think you'd be reading, in a years time:
disinfectant 4.80
new welcome mat 56.70
fortnum and masons letter opener 79.99
Absolutely superb!!!! The funniest thing I have read in ages, still PMSL, I think I have cracked a rib......just a superb visual picture. LOL It is criminal to steal a purse, daring to steal a fortune, a mark of greatness to steal a crown. The blame diminishes as the guilt increases
