What a great idea by Chris and Andrea to try and drum up trade at their pub by offering a free meal with a pint. There are some great pubs in North Devon doing all they can to get through the current economic downturn and they all need our support. Pubs are such important hubs of the community and it is such a shame to see so many of them being forced to close due to factors such as increasing taxes on alcohol and cheap supermarket beer.
Good luck to them, i'm not often in Landkey but will be sure to stop for a pint next time i am!
Yes, I'm amazed no one has thought of it before. I hope it works out for them and encourages people to visit the pub. It certainly beats the standard promotional ideas of some other landlords in this country, who instead sell strong cheap booze during, before and after happy hour, before unleashing their punters to rampage through our high streets, pausing only to vomit, smash things up and be filmed for Road Wars.
Definitely might have to call in at Landkey for a Monday pint!
I think that's a little harsh on landlords Winkle Picker. Pubs aren't kindergartens and do only serve alcohol to "adults" after all. I know pubs have a certain amount of responsibility, but surely they're not expected to mother drinkers who should really be mature enough to take responsibility for their own behaviour.
You have a pint, err, point — It was more a comment on the mongrelised chavs who haunt our town centres and high streets, than having a go at the landlords.
However the drinks promotions at some "going out" venues are pretty crazy and designed to reduce people to states of inebriation in the shortest possible order.
But yea, if you're going to chuck it down your neck, you've got to take responsibility for it, I guess.
But since many of them (el chaves y chavs) don't take responsibility for anything else in their lives, suppose that's wishful thinking.....
