North Devon UFO sightings
Reply Quote

Following the headline story in the North Devon Gazette last week "Our garden was buzzed by a UFO!" lots of readers have phoned in telling us about possible UFO sightings!

Other readers have suggested that these sightings may just be Chinese Laterns, which are increasingly popular at weddings and summer parties!

Was this the UFO?

What d you think? Have you spotted any UFOs in Devon?

Tell us about your UFO sightings here!

I saw one Monday evening at about 19.30 fly over our garden in Pilton, Barnstaple. It was speeding along at quite a rate and was heading North East. It was still light so I could see it quite well.It was balloon shaped and I could see it's flame. I would definitely say it was a large Chinese lantern. It looked roughly to be coming from the Rugby Club area, but I'd love to know EXACTLY where it came from!!

personaly, I'm pretty open minded about such things, but here's my account of what my wife and I saw late Tuesday evening 05 Aug 2008 whilst camping at Braddicks Holiday Park - Westward Ho!

We were sat outside our tent looking out over Bideford Bay - I had a good view of Chivenor although it was quite dark (not sure of time) - could see the buildings lit up and the flashing blue lights!

As we were chatting I noticed what gave the impression of a sunset as what appeared as a very bright orange ball lit up the sky and surrounding clouds. The effect was quite eirry. Appeared to be just sat suspended about a mile high in the sky - from our view to the right of Chivenor - roughly over Ashford,

After about 5 mins it just seemed to disappear but reappeared in about 1 min. As it reappeared the clouds lit up again. Stayed a few more mins then went again.

At first I thought it was a type of flare but was too far from Chivenor.

The same re occured several more times that evening - all about the same spot and hight but no movement.

I wasn't aware of any similar sightings until we got home today and read the paper. Wierd.

I have a very open mind on UFO sightings and although I can't claim to have seen one myself I do feel that many reports over the years, some from people of very high integrity, must at least raise a question in the mind, however I felt I ought to comment that one day last week I was standing with a group of acquaintances when I overheard one of them saying that after hearing a news report they had called the Gazette and reported a sighting as a joke.  That call was reported in the news article in last week's Gazette.  It's brainless idiots like this that give people who genuinely think they've seen something extra-terrestrial, a bad name and encourages others to question the integrity of all such reports.  Why waste the time, effort and price of a phone call to lie?

Surprise [:O] Re: Exeter Devon UFO sightings

I live in Alphington, Exeter and had never imagined I would be writing about something like this but what I saw early this morning has left me with questions that need answers!!! It was about 1.00 am I was in my living room when I noticed our outside light was on, this turned out to be nothing, probably a cat but when the light went out I looked up at the sky and couldn't believe what I saw. In the clouds was a hazy light, moving quickly, very quickly, to quick to be a plane and to jerky to be a shooting star, this light then broke up into 3 separate lights that moved off and seemed to disappear into the night, a few second's later the light was back, as one again. I thought this might be something to do with electricity in the clouds or atmospheric pressure (Im no meterologist!!) but then I saw the light move through a cloud out across open sky and back behind another cloud. I'd really like to know what this was and if anyone else saw anything???
