Weston-super-Mare Carnival details

WESTON carnival organisers say the event is set to be a success, as long as the weather holds out.

The glittering procession will make its way through the streets on Monday night, delighting thousands of people who will line the pavements.

However, money collections at carnivals across the region have decreased this year and procession bosses are appealing for Weston people to give to the good causes.

Director Jan Matthews said: "The donations have decreased this year and it's sad that the charities may miss out.

"Sidmouth carnival was £3,000 down on last time and in Weston this year we hope to beat the previous total."

Funding problems have left the committee with no road closure marshalls, but volunteers are stepping in to help.

Fifty Rotarians from across the South West are being joined by 14 Young Farmers in the effort.

The procession sets off from Locking Road car park at 7.15pm.

Video of the event will available to view at www.westonmercury.co.uk, while next week's Mercury will also include carnival night pictures.
