A Garden Pond From Scratch

Midweek Herald editor Belinda Bennett has always longed for a garden pond. Inspired by childhood memories of a neighbour's pond in a back garden in Whitebridges, Honiton, she has since enjoyed happy times observing aquatic life in a pond of near lake proportions at the home of a friend's parents in rural Dorset. My goldfish look hungry

Will my fish waste away and die if I neglect to feed them all winter?

Although I have been advised to stop feeding them now that the colder weather has started to arrive, they are still active and swimming around. They look, to me, as though they are looking for food.

Hence, I have been giving them a few flakes every couple of days.

I am going to continue this until we get another cold snap.

I am sure they will be more dormant then.
